Nathan Martin Takes Victory Lap at Jackson High School After Winning L.A. Marathon

Share: Copied!

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A Victory Lap celebration was held for Jackson High School (JHS) Cross Country and Track Coach Nathan Martin after he earned a 1st Place finish at the 41st L.A. Marathon.

It was a historic win for Martin, as he won by .01 seconds after sprinting to overtake 2nd Place finisher Michael Kamau, making it the closest ever finish in L.A. Marathon history.

That kind of finish is not possible without a tremendous amount of work over the course of a 26.2 mile event, something that one of the students he coaches says helps with their mentality during races.

Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Jeremy Patterson read a resolution from the district to honor the achievement and the other ways in which the win will go down in the record books.

Martin was also presented with recognitions from the State of Michigan by representatives of State Senator Sue Shink and State Representative Kathy Schmaltz.

Students and staff then lined the hallways throughout three floors of JHS to join the celebration as Martin was led by the JHS drumline.

Nathan Martin said the event was an amazing opportunity to be a part of, and that he was glad to be able to share it with all who were there.
