Hanover-Horton Schools Sinking Fund Millage Renewal on November Ballot

Share: Copied!

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — People living in the area of Hanover-Horton Schools will have the chance vote on a renewal for a sinking fund millage proposal on the upcoming election ballot.

This renewal proposal would not raise the current millage rate (0.9576 mills), and would go into effect in 2027 after the current sinking fund expires in 2026. If passed, the millage would be active until 2034.

Superintendent Denise Bergstrom explained that a sinking fund provides money for building repairs, renovations and instructional technology.

Superintendent Bergstrom described some of the projects that the Hanover-Horton district will need to address soon that the sinking fund would provide financial help with.

The superintendent also gave a rundown of what the sinking fund is prohibited from being used for, including employee salaries / benefits and textbooks.

District officials say that if the renewal is not passed, expenses for repairs will have to come out of the general operating fund, which will impact student programming and staffing.

The district has a FAQ document on their website hanoverhorton.org.
