MSP Advises Jackson County Public to Lock Vehicles as Area Sees Increase in Vehicle Thefts

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — An uptick in vehicle thefts over the past few months have prompted law enforcement agencies throughout Jackson County to remind residents on how to better secure them.

Michigan State Police (MSP) say that between April and June, law enforcement agencies in Jackson County received sixty-nine reports of stolen vehicles.

Their investigations indicate that the majority of the stolen vehicles had been left unlocked. Officials say that Mondays and Fridays have seen the highest number of reported incidents.

Police encourage residents to take the following steps to help protect their vehicles:

  • Always lock your vehicle, even if you are only leaving it unattended for a short time.
  • Never leave your vehicle running unless it is locked and secured.
  • Remove valuables from plain view or take them with you when leaving your vehicle.

Those who observe suspicious activity that may be related to a vehicle theft or have information regarding a stolen vehicle are asked to contact 911 immediately.

Authorities say prompt reporting can assist law enforcement in recovering stolen vehicles, identifying suspects, and preventing additional thefts.
