Interfaith Shelter

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jackson Interfaith Shelter (JIS) will celebrate a major milestone in its mission to serve neighbors experiencing homelessness with a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Family Shelter on Wednesday, March 18, at 3:00 p.m.

The event will take place at 305 W Wesley Street, marking the official start of construction on a facility designed specifically to help JIS provide greater stability, dignity, and support for families in crisis.

Parking for the event will be available in the lot directly across the street from the site. Light refreshments will follow at the main shelter building.

For more than 50 years, Jackson Interfaith Shelter has offered shelter, food, and hope to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Jackson community.

JIS leadership says the new Family Shelter represents an important step forward in expanding the organization’s ability to serve parents and children with greater compassion, resources, and long-term support.

“This groundbreaking signals the beginning of a new chapter for our organization,” said Steve Castle, CEO. “Our goal is to create a space where families can find not only refuge, but renewed hope and stability as they take steps toward a brighter future.”

JIS invites community leaders, partners, donors, media contacts and members of the public to attend and join in celebrating the moment.

Jackson Interfaith Shelter says they are grateful for the continued support of the community as it works to put God’s love into action through expanded services and shelter for families in need.

Guests are encouraged to RSVP in advance by visiting interfaithshelter.com/groundbreaking.

The shelter currently has 76 beds and houses over 500 men, women and children every year. Additionally, community meals are served three times a day, 365 days a year, at 7:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Nearly 90,000 meals are served each year thanks to generous donations from community partners. To learn more about the mission of JIS, visit interfaithshelter.com.
