city hall

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The City of Jackson entered a 3-year financial contribution agreement with the Rx Kids program on Tuesday (February 10).

Rx Kids is a cash prescription program for pregnant moms. The program says they provide all pregnant moms in the program’s community with $1,500 of “no-strings-attached” cash during pregnancy and up to $500 a month during the baby’s first months of life.

Eligibility for the Rx Kids program is determined by where you live.

A presentation given by Monica Moser, President of the Jackson Community Foundation, to the council at their Tuesday meeting detailed the City of Jackson and Blackman Township as priority communities for the program’s services.

The specific details about the contribution, besides the time period of three years, were not on the agenda before the meeting, with City Manager Jonathan Greene explaining the financial amount attached to the motion prior to the presentation.

City Council approved the contribution of $15,000 per year for the next three years in a unanimous vote.

City Manager Greene says that the funding for these contributions will come from the city’s general fund.
