Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Two toddlers were found deceased and others were hospitalized as a result of a house fire at the 900 block of S Gorham Street in Jackson on Sunday morning.

At approximately 7:53 a.m. on February 8, fire crews responded to a reported residential structure fire with occupants trapped inside.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions on the first floor of the residence. On-scene information indicated that two children were still inside the home.

One adult male occupant was located in the front yard suffering from significant burn injuries and was treated by Jackson Community Ambulance. Fire crews made an immediate entry into the residence to search for the children.

Despite extreme fire conditions, firefighters were able to quickly locate and remove the victims from the structure.

Tragically, due to the untenable conditions inside the dwelling, both children, a two-year-old and a three-year-old, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The adult male was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health and later transferred to the University of Michigan Burn Center. An adult female occupant was also transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health, officials say her condition is unknown at this time.

During a secondary search of the residence, firefighters located two deceased dogs. Fire suppression and overhaul operations continued for several hours, with all crews clearing the scene at approximately 11:35 a.m.

The Michigan State Police have been requested to conduct the fire investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Responding agencies include the Jackson Fire Department, Summit Township Fire Department, Blackman-Leoni Township Fire Department, Napoleon Township Fire Department, Grass Lake Fire Department, Jackson Community Ambulance, Jackson Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, and JDART.

A GoFundMe has been created for the family that has been impacted by this tragedy, with more than $15,000 being raised in support of helping them with funeral costs and hospital bills.
