Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson City Police Department (JPD) and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff (JCSO) are looking for Michigan residents interested in becoming reserve officers and reserve deputies.

Reserves are volunteers that assist the JPD and the JCSO by serving the citizens of the City of Jackson and County of Jackson.

Reserves may assist regular sworn officers on patrol or assist with special community events such as parades, fireworks, and the fair.

Candidates will receive training throughout this academy in investigations, traffic enforcement, defensive tactics, firearms, narcotics, and criminal law.

Candidates must already possess or be able to obtain a Concealed Pistol License. Applications are available at the JPD, JCSO, or on the City of Jackson website and must be submitted by December 1st at 5:00 p.m.

Although this is a joint academy, candidates will be selected and volunteer with only one department. The academy will start in February of 2026 and will meet for 15 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, along with a few Saturdays.
