Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jamaica has recently experienced the destruction of medical facilities, residential homes, and businesses as a result of Hurricane Melissa devastating the country.
Jackson County District Three Commissioner Corey Kennedy, who has family and friends in Jamaica and is an administrator of the Real Jamaica Islandwide Vybz Facebook group, has launched a GoFundMe to raise funds for rebuilding efforts that he and his friend will conduct in Jamaica.
The GoFundMe can be found by clicking on the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-islandwide-vybz-rebuild-jamaica.
Commissioner Kennedy says that sharing the link helps and that donations are appreciated, as well as volunteers skilled in carpentry who are willing to donate their time to assist with rebuilding.
The trip is planned to take place in about a month from now, with Commissioner Kennedy wanting to make sure that he leaves enough time to raise enough funds, and enough time so that commercial flights will be able to travel to the island’s most impacted areas when he leaves.
Commissioner Kennedy says that all proceeds from the GoFundMe will be allocated for the necessary repairs, and that the people going on the trip will pay for their travel expenses out of pocket.
