Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jackson Public Schools (JPS) has a $126 million bond proposal on the upcoming ballot that features a 0 mill increase. One of the major projects the bond would fund is the introduction of an Innovation Center that would be built following a demolition of Reynolds Hall, where administrative offices are currently located.
This has raised concerns from those who believe the building holds significant historical value as part of the Under the Oaks Historic District, including the Jackson County Michigan Historical Society.
JPS Superintendent Jeremy Patterson says that the district has held community forums where those concerns were discussed.
Superintendent Patterson stated that the district would make efforts to recognize the hall’s historical value and legacy within the innovation center if the bond passes.
There has also been support for the bond proposal, with JPS hoping to provide an innovation center that supports career and technical training with hands-on learning.
