Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson County Board of Commissioners held their monthly full board meeting on Tuesday evening (October 21). During the meeting, the board unanimously approved the purchase of new Glock G45 firearms to be used by the county Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Gary Schuette presented to the board why he believes the upgrade to be necessary, saying that the weapon features a better aiming technique for increased accuracy.
Commissioner Tony Bair gave his support for the $83,771.93 purchase, calling it low cost in comparison to the value of what the Sheriff’s Office provides to the county.
United States veteran and Jackson native Douglas Brinker was appointed to serve on the LifeWays board to fill the vacant position of Primary Consumer Member.
Brinker expressed his gratitude for being put in the position and his eagerness to provide mental health services to those who need them.
There were General Government Committee appointments that were made involving the Land Bank.
Corey Kennedy will remain in his role as Commissioner, Mary Wolcott will remain in her role as Public Member, and David Hammontree will step into the role of Non-profit Representative to replace Lindsey Noll.
